Seeking Advice

Dilemma: When to enjoy a Christmas feast with family, dining on our own grass-fed prime rib?

It seems that on the Saturday before Christmas, we'll all be dining at Miss Bobo's in Lynchburg (yum!). On Christmas day, my parents and sister leave for a trip to various relatives' homes (in Arkansas and Texas) soon after a hearty Christmas breakfast. We have considered a big, Christmas/Sabbath feast on Christmas Eve, but that means we'd miss church in Georgia, which we don't want to do. I have suggested New Year's eve or day for the prime rib, but no one really picked up on that idea.

Herb Course from TNFarmgirl!

I'm excited about this offering from TNFarmgirl. You can read her blog entry about it here.

Dilemma: I want to take advantage of her extended email support, but I'm hesitant to order it now; we've just been so busy. However, I want to get more knowledge before time to set down firm plans for the garden.

Graduation Day

Our friendly heifer has now been graduated to cow status.
On Monday, as Keith was headed down the drive to go to his off-farm job, he noticed that one of our heifers--our friendliest bovid resident--was giving birth. Two hooves were out, and frost was already forming on them. This being her first calf, and the weather a chilly 18 degrees, he came back in, changed clothes, and recruited some aides. They went and helped out with the birthing process, pulling the calf. Cow and calf seem to be doing fine.
